Mango Halwa

Mangoes are in season and if you are also a mango lover like me you would find any reason to add mangoes in your recipe. This Mango Halwa or Mango Sheera recipe is so simple yet so delicious. It will satiate both you mango & sweet cravings.

You can use any variety of mangoes you like for this recipe. Kesari, Dasheri, Alphonso works best. Make sure mangoes are sweet otherwise, you might need to add a lot more jaggery in the recipe to compensate for the sourness of mangoes. If you don’t have jaggery you can use any other sweetener like coconut sugar in the recipe.

Ingredients

  • Cashews 8-10

  • Raisins 8-10

  • Semolina (Sooji) 1 cup

  • Water 2 cups

  • Mango Puree 2 cups

  • Jaggery (Gud) 1/2 cup

  • Cardamom powder 1/2 tsp (Optional)

Directions

  • Heat a pan on medium flame. Add 2 Tbsp ghee.
  • When ghee is hot add cashews & raisins. Saute for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add 1 cup semolina. Roast for 2-3 minutes until sooji turns light golden.
  • Add 2 cups of water. Water should not be cold.
  • Stir continuously so that there are no lumps. Now sooji should have a thick paste like consistency.
  • Add 1/2 cup jaggery and mix.
  • Add mango pulp and let it cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Mix cardamom powder.
  • In the end, add 1 Tbsp ghee and mix.

Mango Halwa is ready. Serve it hot and top it up with some fresh mango cubes.
